How Do I Know if My 4219's DIP Switches Are Turned "On"?

You will know if your 4219's DIP switches are turned "on" because it will be facing upward. Likewise, a DIP switch that is facing down is in the "off" position. There are eight DIP switches on a 4219 zone expander. The way these DIP switches are set determines how the 4219 is addressed.

A Honeywell 4219 Zone Expander allows you to add eight additional hardwired zones to a Honeywell Vista Security Panel. It is compatible with the Vista-15p, Vista-20p and the Vista-21ip. You can add multiple 4219 zone expanders to the same panel, but only if it does not exceed the total number of zones that the panel can support. A Vista-15p can support up to 22 hardwired zones, while a Vista-20p or 21iP can support up to 48.

There are a total of eight DIP switches on a 4219 zone expander. A DIP switch facing upwards is "on", while a DIP switch facing downwards is "off". DIP switches 1 through 5 are used to determine which address that the 4219 will be set to. The address determines which specific hardwired zones the terminals on the 4219 will represent on the panel.

DIP switch 6 should always be set to the "on" position.

If DIP switch 7 is on, then the expander will only support Normally Closed Zones. If DIP switch 7 is off, then an end of line resistor (EOLR) will need to be used with the zones. DIP Switch 8 determines whether or not the tamper switch on the 4219 is enabled. If DIP Switch 8 is on, then the tamper will be disabled. If DIP Switch 8 is off, then the tamper will be enabled.

The picture below shows the DIP switches on a Honeywell 4219 Zone Expander:

The DIP switches on a 4219 zone expander must always be in the proper position in order for the hardwired zones to function properly. You should always test the zones on a 4219 to make sure that the zone expander has been addressed correctly. For more help on addressing a 4219 zone expander, please consult this guide.

Thats not nice. But if you look at the dip switches, one side is marked "ON"
"because it will be facing upward." Define upward first, dimwit.
