How Many Hardwired Zones Are On an Interlogix Simon XT?
There are two hardwired zones on an Interlogix Simon XT. The panel supports up to 40 different zones. Two of these zones can be hardwired or wireless, but the other 38 must be wireless. To use additional hardwired sensors, a contact can be wired to a transmitter, or a converter can be used.
On the circuit board for an Interlogix Simon XT System, there are hardwire terminals that provide support for two wired sensors. The wired sensors are connected directly to these terminals, and they are set up with the panel through system programming. Whenever a wired sensor is set up with the system it will receive its own Sensor Number for easy identification. It will also take up one of the 40 total zones on the system. In other words, by adding a wired sensor, one fewer wireless sensor will be able to be added to the Simon XT System as a result.
Remember, there is only support on the Simon XT board for two wired sensors. If a user wants to add additional hardwired sensors to their Simon XT System, they must use a wireless transmitter that will allow the sensor to communicate with the system wirelessly. Some wireless devices, such as certain door and window contacts, will include a connecting terminal for a hardwired device. The hardwired device will connect to this input, and the sensor will send a wireless signal on the behalf of the sensor. This will allow the hardwired device to function with the Simon XT wirelessly. But remember, this will still take up a wireless zone on the Simon XT System.
If a user needs to add a large number of wired sensors to a Simon XT System, they can do so using a Qolsys IQ Hardwire-8. This device will support up to eight different hardwired sensors. It converts the hardwired input to a 319.5 MHz wireless signal that can communicate with the Simon XT System. This will allow additional wired sensors to be used with the system. But again, each sensor will still require its own unique zone on the Simon XT.
