Description
The Interlogix TX-E231 is a wireless door and window contact for use with Interlogix wireless alarm systems. The device can monitor almost any door, window or cabinet to let the user know when it has been opened and closed. It features a compact design with a low profile enclosure, allowing it to blend in seamlessly in virtually any setting. The device comes with interchangeable white and brown covers so that users can choose which look suits their environment the best. Overall, this sensor is great for any situation in which a door or window requires monitoring.
Like most surface-mount door and window contacts, the Interlogix TX-E231 operates using an internal reed switch and an included magnet. The sensor is placed on the door or window frame, and the magnet is placed on the moving part. There is a 5/8 inch maximum magnet spacing gap which is actually slightly wider than its other Interlogix counterparts. Whenever the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the reed switch and cause a fault. When this happens, the sensor will send a signal to the alarm system to let it know that the zone is in a faulted state. The system will then perform the programmed response for that wireless zone. This can always be adjusted by using the installer code if the zone is not behaving as desired.
In addition to serving as a door or window contact, the Interlogix TX-E231 is equipped with a wireless transmitter function for a normally closed hardwired device. There is an included wiring harness that snaps into a connector inside the TX-E231. The hardwired sensor will connect to the red and black wire leads and the sensor will transmit wireless signals when the circuit is closed. Please note that the TX-E231 cannot be used as both a wired and wireless transmitter at the same time. If the external wire harness is physically connected to the sensor's board it will configure the sensor for the wired setup automatically. If you want to use the wireless reed switch function the harness must be disconnected. While the device can operate from up to 500 feet away from the panel in open air, we recommend placing it within 100 feet of the system for best performance.
Mounting the sensor and magnet is very easy, and it can be accomplished using screws or double-sided foam tape. The mounting bracket that comes included with the sensor makes the installation a simple process. The battery for the sensor will last for up to five years depending upon its usage. Additionally, the case and wall tamper switches on the device will let the system know if any intruder tries to physically disable the device in any way.
