How Many Zones Does a VISTA-21iP Have?

A VISTA-21iP has 64 zones. However, the system will require some add-ons to support this many zones. By default, the system only has 8 hardwired zone terminals. But zones 2 thru 8 can be used with zone doubling. This means a maximum of 15 zones can be used without any system add-ons.

In order to access the remaining zones on the system, one or more add-ons are needed. Of the system's 64 total zones, 56 of them can be wireless and use wireless sensors. This will require the addition of a wireless receiver. This can come in the form of a keypad with an integrated wireless receiver, like the Honeywell 6160RF, or it can be a standalone wireless receiver, like the Honeywell 5881ENH. Please note that if you use zone doubling on the hardwired zones, this will cut into the maximum number of wireless zones. So if you use all of the 15 available hardwired zones on the panel, you will only have a maximum of 49 wireless zones available.

In addition to the 40 standard wireless zones, the system also has 16 special key fob zones that are reserved for key fobs. This allows up to four Honeywell 5834-4 Key Fob devices to be used with the system, or two if multi-button presses are used. If a user runs out of key fob zones, then any key fob inputs can also be programmed to any of the 40 standard wireless zones.

As stated earlier, the VISTA-21iP only has 8 hardwired zones terminals, 7 of which can be used for zone-doubling. To add additional hardwired sensors, one or more zone expansion models are needed. The zone expander to use with the VISTA-21iP is the Honeywell 4219. This module will add up to 8 additional hardwired zones for the VISTA-21iP. In order to get maximum functionality out of the system, you will need to add five of the 4219 modules.

Please note that any zone rules for the Honeywell VISTA-21iP also apply to the Honeywell VISTA-20P. These systems have the same number of zones, and they are programmed in the same manner.
