Is the 2GIG Edge Compatible With All 2GIG Sensors?
Yes, the 2GIG Edge is compatible with all 2GIG Sensors. This includes the non-encrypted 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors and the encrypted 2GIG eSeries Sensors. The 2GIG Edge also supports uni-directional sensors from the Honeywell 5800 Series. This gives Edge users many wireless sensors to choose from.
Unlike the other highly anticipated new security systems, the 2GIG Edge did not have a new sensor lineup released alongside it. Instead, 2GIG opted for the Edge System to rely solely on backward compatibility for sensor support. The 2GIG Edge basically has the same sensor compatibility as a 2GIG GC2e or 2GIG GC3e. Users have a good selection of both encrypted and non-encrypted wireless sensors to choose from. Additionally, wired sensor support is available using a compatible wired to wireless converter. The Honeywell 5800C2W, the 2GIG TAKE-345, and the 2GIG TAKE1e-345 are all converter options that can be used to integrate wired sensors and each will allow the 2GIG Edge to see them as compatible wireless devices.
The 2GIG Edge Alarm Panel supports all existing 2GIG Wireless Sensors. This includes the 2GIG eSeries Sensors, which are the only encrypted sensors that can be used with the Edge. Thanks to advanced encryption protection, these sensors are virtually impossible to defeat using readily available RF sniffing devices. This makes them more secure than non-encrypted sensors. The use of encrypted sensors on protection zones (e.g. front door, back door, prominent motion sensors) is recommended. The 2GIG eSeries Sensors were originally released for the 2GIG GC2e and 2GIG GC3e, but the 2GIG Edge has been made backward compatible to support them. These represent the leading sensors for use with the 2GIG Edge.
Older, non-encrypted 2GIG Wireless Sensors are also compatible with the 2GIG Edge. This includes the 2GIG 345MHz Sensors. As the name implies, these wireless devices communicate across the 2GIG 345 MHz frequency. The 2GIG Edge has a legacy 2GIG 345 MHz receiver inside, allowing it to support these devices. Although these sensors were originally designed for use with the 2GIG Go!Control GC2 and later the 2GIG GC3, every wireless 2GIG System released since then has been able to support them, and the 2GIG Edge is no exception. The inclusion of support for these sensors means that if you are replacing an older 2GIG panel with non-encrypted sensors already installed, you don't have to replace them immediately if you don't want to.
Lastly, the 2GIG Edge readily supports most of the Honeywell 5800 Sensors that were originally built for use with the Honeywell VISTA and Honeywell LYNX Touch Alarm Panels. Much like the 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors, the Honeywell 5800 Sensors also operate on a non-encrypted 345 MHz frequency. They have been supported by every wireless 2GIG Panel, dating back to the original 2GIG GC2. As these are non-encrypted devices, they are typically used in similar locations as the 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors. If you upgraded to a 2GIG Edge System from an older Honeywell LYNX Touch, then it's a good bet that you have some of these sensors installed. You can continue to get good use out of them by enrolling them with your 2GIG Edge. Just note that you can only use the uni-directional (one-way) Honeywell 5800 Sensors with the 2GIG Edge. This means that you cannot use Honeywell 5800 devices that rely on a House ID Code for pairing. Examples of bi-directional (two-way) Honeywell 5800 Sensors that cannot be used with the 2GIG Edge include the Honeywell 5800WAVE Siren, the Honeywell 5828 Keypad, the Honeywell 5800RL, and the Honeywell 5834-4 Keyfob on high-security mode.
