Is The 2GIG GC3 Flash Upgradeable?
Update: The GC3 now supports OTA and USB flash upgrades. Inquire the pricing details of the OTA update with your Alarm.com dealer or follow our instructions for a local USB firmware update here. There are several advantages to flash upgrading the GC3 including expanded compatibility with 2GIG 900MHz products as well as Z-Wave devices.
Note: The GC3 does not require the UPCBL2. All you need a USB flash drive!
At this time OTA (over the air) firmware updates are unavailable for the 2GIG GC3 control panel and the 2GIG UPCBL2 is not compatible with the 2GIG GC3 panel so users cannot flash the panel locally like the 2GIG Go Control.
However, the 2GIG GC3 control panel has a USB port which allows the panel firmware to receive updates.
As 2GIG releases updates, dealers have the ability to download the updates and save the updates to a USB thumb drive. This means, dealers would have to mail a downloaded thumb drive to the customer so the customer could insert the thumb drive to the USB port on the 2GIG GC3 control panel for firmware updates.
To update the 2GIG GC3 panel using a thumb drive, insert the thumb drive into the USB port located on the top of the GC3 panel. Press Update once the Firmware Update and Update icons appear > when the update is complete the 2GIG GC3 panel will restart and a message will appear in your panel’s in box. The message in box will blink with 1 new message > press the message icon and the firmware update message > delete or mark read.
Although the 2GIG GC3 cellular communicator install manual refers to over the air firmware updates, at this time 2GIG does not have a release date when the 2GIG GC3 control panel will be able to receive these types of updates.Did you find this answer useful?
