Qolsys IQ Panel 2 vs 2GIG GC3

The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 and the 2GIG GC3 are both wireless security systems that can serve as the central hub for a security setup. They both present similar functions and capabilities, though the IQ Panel 2 does offer a few more bells and whistles. Both are excellent by today's standards.

The differences between the two systems are relatively minor, though most favor the IQ Panel 2 over the GC3. The IQ Panel 2 allows for more user codes (242 vs 100) and more wireless zones (128 vs 100). Another advantage for the IQ Panel2 is that it is compatible with encrypted security sensors (the Qolsys S-Line), while no encrypted security sensors are available for the GC3. Additionally, the IQ Panel 2 includes a built-in cellular communicator, while the GC3 will require one to be purchased separately.

The IQ Panel 2 also includes various features and functions not found on the GC3. These features include a built-in motion sensor, a built-in glass break sensor, facial recognition features, the ability to live-stream ADC Cameras from the panel, disarm photos, and Bluetooth disarming. Both the IQ Panel 2 and the the GC3 offer support for up to four system partitions. Please note that various firmware updates may be needed to unlock these features.

However, there is one significant advantage that the 2GIG GC3 offers over the IQ Panel 2. This is the ability of the GC3 to connect with Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors. This is extremely useful for users who are upgrading from an older Honeywell VISTA System and already have 5800 Series sensors set up with their system. If the user purchases an IQ Panel 2, they will need to replace all of these wireless Honeywell sensors with Qolsys sensors. On the other hand, a GC3 will be able to interface with these sensors, and they will not need to be replaced. This is not a concern for VISTA owners who exclusively used hardwired sensors, as there are wired to wireless converters that will interface with the IQ Panel 2, and others that will interface with the GC3.
