What Are the 2GIG Encrypted Sensors?
The 2GIG Encrypted Sensors are encrypted wireless sensors made by 2GIG from Nortek. These sensors are only compatible with the 2GIG GC2e and 2GIG GC3e. They are not backwards compatible, and they cannot be used with the older 2GIG Systems in any way. This includes the 2GIG GC2 and 2GIG GC3.
Encrypted wireless sensors utilize added protections when communicating with wireless alarm control panels. This makes encrypted sensors less likely to be hacked or taken over by a potential intruder. Many owners of security systems will use encrypted sensors for added peace of mind when using their systems.
2GIG offers their own lineup of encrypted sensors. These devices are very similar to their existing wireless sensors, but they communicate using encryption for enhanced wireless security. The 2GIG Encrypted Sensors can only be used with with the 2GIG GC2e and 2GIG GC3e Systems. These encrypted sensors have their own unique Equipment Codes that are used when programming.
Many users wonder if it is possible to use the 2GIG Encrypted Sensors with the older 2GIG GC2 and GC3 Systems. They believe that the sensors may be backwards and able to work with these systems as non-encrypted sensors. But that is not the case. The 2GIG Encrypted Sensors will only work with the 2GIG GC3e and 2GIG GC2e Systems. They are not backwards compatible, and they cannot be used with the older systems.
As of October 2019, there is only a limited selection of 2GIG Encrypted Sensors available. More 2GIG Encrypted Sensors are expected to be released sometime in the future. But at of October 2019, only the following 2GIG Encrypted Sensors are available:
