What are VERSA Door and Window Contacts?
VERSA Door and Window Contacts are effective and affordable wireless sensors that work with many popular alarm systems. These sensors are available in different wireless frequencies, and you should select the one that works at the frequency corresponding with your alarm control panel.
Alarm Grid includes VERSA Door and Window Sensors with many of its non-encrypted wireless security system kits. It's very likely that your new kit includes some of these sensors. Really, they are no different than your standard door and window contact sensors. These devices have two (2) parts. The larger part is the main sensor, and the smaller part is the magnet. The sensor goes on the door or window frame, and the magnet goes on the moving portion of the door or window. The sensor and magnet should be within a half inch when the door or window is closed.
An important thing to know about VERSA Door and Window Sensors is that they come in three (3) different wireless frequencies. There is the 319.5 MHz VERSA-GE, the 345 MHz VERSA-2GIG, and the 433 MHZ VERSA-DSC. The VERSA-GE is for systems like the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus, the original IQ Panel 2, and many of the wireless Interlogix Systems. The VERSA-2GIG has the same compatibilities as the 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors. This makes it compatible with panels like the 2GIG Security Systems and the Honeywell Lyric Controller. The VERSA-DSC works with many of the old DSC Systems, as well as other systems that accept 433 MHz sensors.
It's worth mentioning that the VERSA Sensors were based off of the Honeywell 5800MINI Door and Window Sensors. In fact, they look exactly the same. The Honeywell 5800MINI is part of the Honeywell 5800 Sensor lineup, meaning that operates at 345 MHz, though at a different frequency than the 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors. Every system that supports 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors will also support the Honeywell 5800 MINI. But not every system that supports the Honeywell 5800MINI will also support the 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors and the VERSA-2GIG. Systems that can support the 5800MINI but not the VERSA-2GIG include the Honeywell LYNX Touch Panels and the Honeywell VISTA Panels with an added wireless receiver.
All of the VERSA Sensors and the Honeywell 5800MINI look exactly the same on the outside. But you can tell the difference between these sensors by looking at their inner circuit boards. The VERSA-GE has a blue circuit board, the VERSA-2GIG has a yellow circuit board, the VERSA-DSC has an orange circuit board, and the Honeywell 5800MINI has a red circuit board. All of these sensors use a single CR2032 coin battery for power. We recommend using a lithium battery to ensure longest life.
