Which Motion Sensors are Compatible with the Honeywell L5100?
The motion sensors that are compatible with the Honeywell L5100 are the Honeywell 5800 Series Motion Sensors. This includes the Honeywell 5800PIR-RES, the Honeywell 5800PIR-OD, the Honeywell 5800PIR-COM, the Honeywell 5800PIR, and the Honeywell 5898. Each one has its own specifications.
The wireless receiver inside the Honeywell L5100 System supports wireless sensors that operate at the 345 MHz frequency. This includes motion sensors from the Honeywell 5800 Series. There are five (5) main motion detectors within this lineup. All of them will work great with the Honeywell L5100. The sensor you choose will really depend upon your unique needs.
The Honeywell 5800PIR-RES is a wireless motion sensor designed for residential use. It offers a detection area of 40 by 35 feet. It supports pet immunity for small animals weighing up to 80 pounds. Remember that mounting location is very important for achieving functional pet immunity. The 5800PIR also has identical specifications, but with a few added features. With the 5800PIR, you also get a tamper cover (Loop 4, automatically programmed) and a low temperature sensor (Loop 3).
The Honeywell 5800PIR-COM is considerably more powerful than the 5800PIR-RES. The 5800PIR-COM is designed for commercial use, and it's standard coverage area is 80 feet by 60 feet. If you swap in the included long-range lens, then the coverage area becomes 100 feet by 20 feet. The 5800PIR-COM offers high and low sensitivity moves (Loops 2 and 1, respectively), low temperature detection (Loop 3), and a tamper cover (Loop 4, does not need to be programmed).
The Honeywell 5898 is a dual-tech motion sensor that uses both PIR detection and microwave detection. This is good for preventing false alarms. The sensor will only activate if both the PIR sensor and the microwave sensor are triggered. The 5898 has a coverage area of 60 feet by 50 feet with its standard lens, and a coverage area of 40 feet by 35 feet with its pet-immune lens. By using the pet-immune lens, the sensor will provide pet immunity for small animals weighing up to 100 pounds.
Last up from the 5800 Series is the Honeywell 5800PIR-OD. This is an outdoor motion sensor that is designed to withstand weather conditions like rain, snow, heavy winds, dust, and intense sunlight. The sensor has a protective exterior with an IP54 rating to keep working in tough conditions. It works properly in environments ranging from negative 4 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. It offers a coverage area of 40 feet by 40 feet.
There are also some motion sensors from outside the Honeywell 5800 Series that will work with the L5100. There is the Optex WNX-40HW, which offers a 40-foot by 40-foot coverage area. You can also swap in an Optex FL-60N Lens (sold separately) to achieve a long-range coverage area of 60 feet by 6 feet. Then there's the Optex WFX-360HW, which is a ceiling-mount motion sensor with a coverage diameter of 40 feet. Lastly, there is the Optex FTN-RRHW, an outdoor motion sensor that is less powerful than the 5800PIR-OD, but also more affordable.
