Why Did My IQ Panel 2 Exit Delay Increase After I Opened My Door?
Your IQ Panel 2 Exit Delay increased after you opened your door because it was the second Entry/Exit Zone fault during the Exit Delay countdown. The IQ2 has Auto Exit Time Extension enabled by default, but it can be disabled in programming. The feature increases the timer by 60 seconds.
The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 uses Auto Exit Time Extension as a false alarm prevention feature. This feature will increase the Exit Delay countdown timer by sixty (60) seconds after a second Entry/Exit Zone fault occurs during the Exit Delay period while Arming Away. This can be either the same Entry/Exit Sensor being faulted twice during a single arming session, or it can be two different sensors (e.g. a front door and a back door). Either way, the second fault will cause the countdown timer to automatically increase by 60 seconds. Please note that the IQ Panel 2 Sensor Groups that are considered to be Entry/Exit Zones are Sensor Group 10 Entry-Exit Normal Delay and Sensor Group 12 Entry-Exit Long Delay.
The idea behind Auto Exit Time Extension is fairly simple. When you fault the first Entry/Exit Zone, the system assumes that you have exited the building. Then when you perform the second fault, the system assumes that you have returned inside the building. This could be because you forgot something inside. Since there should be nobody inside the building when the system is Armed Away, the Auto Exit Time Extension feature will give you additional time to make your departure. This way, you will not be left inside to potentially trigger an alarm. Please note that if no Entry/Exit Zone is faulted during the Exit Delay countdown, then Auto-Stay Arming will go into effect, and they system will Arm Stay instead of Arm Away. This is assuming that the Auto-Stay Arming feature is enabled.
In addition to Auto Exit Time Extension, there are other ways to increase the Exit Delay timer. The countdown timer can be manually increased during an arming session by pressing the green +60 button. This will increase the timer by 60 seconds. You can only do that once per arming session. If you want to permanently increase the Exit Delay timer for future arming sessions, then you can change the appropriate Exit Delay setting within programming. By changing the Exit Delay, the new setting will be applied every single time you Arm Away. This can be very useful if you are constantly finding yourself racing to get out of the building before the Exit Delay expires.
Most users appreciate the Auto Exit Time Extension feature as a false alarm prevention tool. But if you want to disable the feature, then you can do so within programming. Complete the following steps to disable Auto Exit Time Extension on the Qolsys IQ Panel 2:
1. Enter Security & Arming. Start from the main screen of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2. Press the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Choose Settings > Advanced Settings > enter the Installer Code (default 1111) > Installation > Security & Arming. You will enter the Security & Arming Menu.
2. Disable the feature. Scroll down to Auto Exit Time Extension. The feature is found within the Arming sub-section. Click on the box next to the feature to toggle between enabled and disabled. Make sure the box is un-checked to have the feature disabled.
3. Return to main screen. Click on the picture of the house at the bottom of the screen to return to the main screen. The change will be automatically applied.
