DSC MX916KT

The DSC MX916KT is a kit containing the MX916 addressable smoke/heat detector, and the MXBASE. These products work with the Qolsys IQ Pro system and connect to the panel via the HSM3105 Addressable Loop Module. The DSC MX916 is a smoke/heat head, and does not have any screw terminals. Therefore, it must have the MXBASE in order to connect to the panel.

It's unclear why DSC decided to sell the MX916 and the MXBASE separately. There is the possibility that in the future, users may need to replace one or the other part, but not both. In this case, it makes sense to be able to purchase them separately. The MX916, MX926, and MX936 devices each require an MXBASE in order to connect to the Qolsys IQ Pro panel. For this reason, we've created kits for each of these products that include an MXBASE. These are this product and the MX926KT and MX936KT kits respectively.

The DSC MX916 is suitable for protecting either residential or commercial spaces. It uses the optical method, also known as the photoelectric method, for sensing smoke. In this method, there is a light source and a photo sensor in the chamber. Under normal conditions, light never falls on the photo sensor. When smoke enters the chamber, it causes the light to scatter or refract. This allows the photo sensor to see light and causes an alarm to occur. This has proven to be a very reliable method of detecting smoke and is not prone to false alarms. The MX916 also offers a heat-enhanced optical mode. This mode uses thermal assistance, in addition to the smoke sensing chamber, to further reduce false alarms.

The MXBASE is a 4" (10.16cm) round mounting base for the MX916. It has four (4) screw terminals which are used to connect to the HSM3105, and then to the next smoke in line, when applicable. The MX916 then attaches to the MXBASE by lining up the marks on the base and the detector, turning 15° counter-clockwise, pressing the smoke into the base, then turning clockwise to secure the smoke head to the base. There is a locking pin that can then be placed to prevent the smoke from being easily removed. The system should be powered down until all MX devices are connected, and then when it powers up, the system will go through the auto-enroll process. Further configuration can be completed using the Qolsys IQ Installer App, available from the Apple App and Google Play stores. Each MX916KT includes one (1) MX916 Addressable Smoke/Heat Detector and one (1) MXBASE.
