Defaulting A Yale Z-Wave Lock

Description
In this video, Joe walks users through the process of performing a factory default on a Yale Z-Wave Lock. A few things will occur when you factory reset a Yale Z-Wave Lock. The Master PIN Code will be reset back to its default. Any added codes will be deleted. All lock Z-Wave settings will be reset.
A factory reset is typically performed when a user takes over the lock from someone else and they want to start fresh with default settings. By factory defaulting a Yale Z-Wave Lock, it will be as though the lock is fresh out of the factory. This way, the user can properly set up the lock to their liking. They will need to go through and adjust the Master PIN Code to a unique code that they can remember. They will also need to add the device to their Z-Wave network.
When a factory reset is performed, the lock's Master PIN Code is restored to its default of 12345678. This code is fairly easy for a potential intruder to guess. The user should change the code to something that is easy for them to remember, but also difficult for others to guess. Please note that any additional added codes will be deleted when a factory reset is performed. The user will need to go and add any additional codes back if necessary.
Factory resetting a Yale Lock will also remove it from the Z-Wave network. The user will need to go and add it back into their Z-Wave network. They may need to clear the lock from the network before they can pair it successfully. This can be done from the Z-Wave controller or hub. Put the controller or hub into its exclusion mode and activate the enrollment function on the lock to exclude. Then put the controller or hub into its inclusion mode and activate the lock's enrollment function to include. You may need to adjust the settings and configurations for the lock after doing this.
A user might also perform a factory reset as a way of troubleshooting the lock. This is typically only done if the lock is not working correctly. Most users will only perform a factory default for their Yale Z-Wave Lock as a last resort. This is because the lock will need to be reprogrammed from scratch, which is quite inconvenient. However, performing a factory default can be very effective in fixing various problems, and it may be the only way to restore the lock.

Hi, DIYers. Joey from Alarm Grid. And today, we're going to show you how to default a Yale Real Living Z-Wave lock. Now, if you ever move into a place and they have an existing lock there, and the existing owners or whomever previously owned the lock doesn't know any of the codes or any of the settings or how to get into the stuff in the lock, defaulting it may be the best route to take, because it'll get everything back fresh and it will be as if it was right out of the box. Defaulting these locks, it's a pretty simple process, but you will need a screwdriver to open it up. And if you do have a second person around, it may help, just because they'll be able to hold the front of the lock or any parts so that you're not stuck trying to juggle it without dropping anything. And you'll see what I mean with that in a second. So as you can see, this is the back of the lock. This is what you would see inside the home. And this is the front of the lock. This is what you would see outside of the home. To do the default, we actually have to get inside of the back of the lock, and we have to press a button while reinserting the batteries. So the first thing that you're going to want to do is you're going to want to open up the battery cover, which is this plastic part right here. So you undo that screw and you lift it up, and there you go. That's the batteries. Now, there's three other screws in this lock. There's two right here behind these individual batteries, and then there's one down here on the bottom. So to get those screws out, you're going to have to remove these two batteries. And the lock is now powered down, and we can actually do our reset with just these two batteries out. So I'm going to undo the bottom screw, and then I'm going to undo these two screws. So now we have the plate off the lock, and as you can see, on the back of the lock, there is a button right here. This button, we're going to have to hold down while we reinsert the batteries. And this is what I meant before when I said it may be helpful if we have another person around, as somebody could just sit in the back and hold this button, while the other person inserts the two batteries. But I'm just going to do this with my two hands. So I'm going to hold down the button with this hand, and then I'm going to reinsert the batteries. And now we need to wait for three seconds. So one, two, three. So that should be sufficient time for the lock to do the reset. I'm gonna release the button. And now our lock should be-- Welcome to Yale Real Living. Yep. And as you can hear, that's what the lock's gonna say when it first turns on and we've done a full default on the lock. So to put it back on its back plate, we will have to remove these two batteries again to reinsert these two screws. So I'm going to take the batteries out, and I'll line up the lock with its back plate and then insert it. And then it will sit there. Then I re-insert the two batteries. After then-- Welcome to Yale Real Living. --I'm going to put my battery cover back on. We should be good to go. That's how you do a factory default on a Yale Real Living lock.
