Can an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Do Home Automation w/o Monitoring?
No, an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 cannot do home automation without monitoring. The only way that these systems can operate Z-Wave home automation devices is with an active Alarm.com cellular communicator. This requires active alarm monitoring service with a cellular monitoring plan.
The Alarm.com cellular communicators for the Interlogix Simon XTi and XTi-5 Alarm Systems all include an integrated Z-Wave controller. This Z-Wave controller will allow Z-Wave home automation devices to interface with one of these systems. So unless a Simon XTi or XTi-5 has one of these active ADC communicators, Z-Wave home automation control will not be possible.
An active ADC cellular communicator will allow for the control of any Z-Wave lights, locks, thermostats and other devices. A user can access Alarm.com to establish rules and scenes. Rules and scenes will allow Z-Wave devices to activate automatically based on a schedule or when certain predetermined events occur on the system. This can be extremely convenient, and it can help a user save money on their energy bills.
Additionally, cellular monitoring also provides some other major benefits for these alarm systems. Cellular monitoring is incredibly fast and reliable, and it is not prone to disruptions caused by signal loss or power outages. With cellular monitoring, any alarm events can be sent to the end user or to a central station depending on the monitoring plan. For those reasons, we strongly recommend upgrading to cellular.
An end user can control their Z-Wave devices directly from the XTi or XTi-5 Panel itself or through Alarm.com. With the Alarm.com Mobile App, Z-Wave devices can be operated from virtually anywhere, as long as their mobile device is receiving a cellular signal. Alarm.com also allows a user to arm and disarm their system and check the status of sensors at any time.
