Do Motion Detectors Work w/ an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5?
Yes, motion detectors will work with an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5. In order to interface with one of these systems, the motion detector must operate at a wireless frequency of 319.5 MHz. The motion detector is assigned an appropriate group type from within system programming.
Interlogix produces their own lineup of motion detectors. These devices all operate at the 319.5 MHz frequency, making them compatible with the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems. The Qolsys IQ Motion also operates at this frequency, and it can be used with these systems as well. But this is not the case for the Qolsys IQ Motion-S, as encrypted sensors cannot be used with the Interlogix Systems.
A motion sensor is added to one of these systems by first putting the system into its learn mode. This involves accessing programming by providing the system's Installer Code. The tamper cover on the motion sensor is then activated in order to learn it in. The settings and configurations for the motion detector must then be configured on the panel. Remember, the sensor will take up one of the 40 available zones on the system.
Most motion detectors used with the Simon XTi or XTi-5 will use a group type of either 17 or 20. Group type 17 is for an Instant Interior, and an alarm will immediately occur if the motion sensor is triggered when the system is set to arm away. Group type 20 is for a delayed interior. With this type, if the motion sensor is activated while the system is set to arm away, the entry delay period for system will trigger. If the system is then not disarmed within the entry delay period, an alarm will occur. Both these group types will automatically be bypassed when the system is armed to stay mode.
The recommended group types for motion detectors on a Simon XTi or XTi-5 are 15, 17, 18, 20, 25, 28 and 32. For more information on group types, please see pages 5 and 6 of the Simon XTi Installation Manual.
