How Do I Use a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 to Control a Garage Door?
You can use a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 to control a garage door by setting up a Z-Wave garage door opener with the system. The user will be able to control their garage door both from the panel itself and from the Alarm.com service. They can also set up their garage door with smart scenes.
The IQ Panel 2 System comes with a built-in Z-Wave controller for supporting Z-Wave smart home devices. The system will send wireless Z-Wave signals to operate the Z-Wave garage door opener. In turn, the Z-Wave garage door opener will connect directly with the user's garage door motor so that it can send commands to open and close the garage door. Of course, completing this process requires physically installing the Z-Wave garage door opener with the garage door motor. A tilt sensor will also need to be installed on the garage door itself.
Whichever Z-Wave garage door opener is used, the user should first make sure that it is compatible with the IQ Panel 2 System. Compatibility can vary between different devices. A great Z-Wave garage door opener to use for this application is the Linear GD00Z. The actual steps for installing the opener with the motor will vary between different devices. But the steps for pairing the Z-Wave garage door opener are outlined below:
1. Access the Z-Wave menu. Start from the main screen of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 with the system disarmed. Press the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Then select Settings > Advanced Settings > Installer Code (1111 is default) > Installation > Devices > Z-Wave Devices. You will now be in the Z-Wave menu.
2. Clear the device. You should clear the Z-Wave garage door opener before attempting to add it to the network in case it was previously enrolled with a different network for factory testing purposes. Choose "Clear Device". The panel will enter into its Z-Wave exclusion mode. Then activate the inclusion function on the Z-Wave garage door opener. The device will most likely have some type of an inclusion button for this purpose. Please note that the Z-Wave garage door opener may need to be brought close to the panel for the signal to go through. The panel will display a message once the command has gone through. Press "OK" to continue.
3. Include the device. Click the "Add Device" button on the IQ Panel 2 System, followed by "Pair". The panel will then enter into its inclusion mode. Then activate the inclusion function on the Z-Wave garage door opener, following the same process that was completed in Step 2. Again, you may need to bring the Z-Wave garage door opener close to the panel for the pairing to complete. The panel will display a message when it has successfully recognized the device. Next, adjust any settings for the device that you just added. This includes naming the device. Press "Add" at the bottom to finish including the device. Then press the picture of the house at the bottom to return to the home screen.
4. Test the device. From the main screen of the IQ Panel 2, swipe right or left until you reach the menu where garage door controllers are displayed. Click on the device and make sure that you can open and close your garage door. If you can, then the device was enrolled successfully.
