How Do I Use an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 to Control a Garage Door?
You can use an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 to control a garage door with a Z-Wave garage door opener. In order to communicate with this type of device, a Z-Wave controller will need to be installed in the system. This is accomplished by adding a cellular communicator to the system.
A Z-Wave garage door opener is a device that can communicate with a Z-Wave controller. The Z-Wave controller can send commands to the device wirelessly so that it can open and close the garage door. The Z-Wave garage door opener will be included into the Z-Wave mesh network so that it strengthens the overall connectivity between other Z-Wave devices and the Z-Wave controller.
In order to provide Z-Wave capability for a Simon XTi or XTi-5, a Z-Wave controller will need to be added. For the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems, the cellular communication modules also each include an integrated Z-Wave controller. So in order to use Z-Wave with a Simon XTi or XTi-5, upgrading to cellular is necessary. This is a very important upgrade for these panels anyway, since they would otherwise be forced to rely on phone line communication. Both a cellular communicator and an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service are needed.
Once the Z-Wave garage door opener has been added, a user can control the device from Alarm.com. The Alarm.com service can be accessed from any web browser, but what makes the service really useful is the Alarm.com Mobile App. As long as the user can pull out their smart phone and connect to the network, they can access the Alarm.com Mobile App. In other words, they will be able to control their Z-Wave garage door opener from virtually anywhere. The user's alarm monitoring company should help them get started with Alarm.com shortly after they activate their service.
