Is the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Compatible w/ Total Connect?
No, the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 are not compatible with Total Connect. The Total Connect Service is designed exclusively for Honeywell Systems. Both the XTi and XTi-5 Systems are produced by Interlogix, making them incompatible with Total Connect. But they can use Alarm.com instead.
Total Connect will only work with alarm systems manufactured by Honeywell. This service provides a secondary point of access for a Honeywell Alarm System. Users access the Total Connect service in order to arm and disarm their systems, check the current status of sensors, control Z-Wave home automation devices and more. By using the Total Connect Mobile App, these actions can be performed from virtually anywhere. However, the Interlogix Simon XTi and XTi-5 systems are not manufactured by Honeywell, and they cannot be used with Total Connect.
But luckily, there is another another option for owners of these systems. This alternative option is the Alarm.com service. Alarm.com can perform basically the exact same functions as Total Connect, only with different alarm systems. In terms of functionality, Alarm.com and Total Connect do differ slightly in terms of compatible smart home devices and services. This is important to keep in mind if you intend on using services such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Amazon Alexa with your security setup. If you are planning to use one or more of these services, you should first make sure that it is compatible with the interactive service platform used by your alarm system. However, also remember that both Total Connect and Alarm.com are continuing to update their compatibilities. Just because one smart device or service is not compatible at the present time does not necessarily mean that it won't be in the future.
An important consideration for Alarm.com is that an alarm system must use cellular communication in order to sync with the interactive service. By default, the Simon XTi and XTi-5 do not come with a cellular communicator. Instead, one must be installed separately. This is a very important upgrade for a Simon XTi or XTi-5 system. Cellular communication offers many advantages over POTS (plain old telephone service) communication. Cellular service is significantly faster and more reliable, and it is almost never down or unavailable. Most consider it to be the gold standard communication path for alarm systems. In order to activate a cellular communicator, an alarm monitoring plan with cellular service is required. Both the Gold and Platinum level plans from Alarm Grid offer cellular connectivity.
