Which Communicators are Compatible With the Interlogix Simon XTi-5i?
The communicators that are compatible with the Interlogix Simon XTi-5i are the Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicators and the Alarm.com XT-511 Series Communicators. If you are using an Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicator, then it must be running firmware version 191C or higher.
A compatible cellular communicator must be added to an Interlogix Simon XTi-5i to use the system with Alarm.com. As of late October 2019, only LTE cellular communicators can be activated for monitoring service. This is fine, as LTE networks provide the best combination of speed and reliability for security systems. There are also dual-path communicators that utilize both LTE and IP. By using a dual-path communicator, your Interlogix Simon XTi-5i will send out signals across both IP and cellular. Whichever signal reaches Alarm.com first will go through, while the other will be automatically discarded. This type of setup provides the XTi-5i with the ultra-fast speeds of IP, plus the excellent reliability of cellular.
If you are looking for a new Alarm.com Communicator for an Interlogix Simon XTi-5i, then the Alarm.com XT-511 Series modules are arguably the best ones to go with. All of these communicators will work with an Interlogix Simon XTi-5i Security System, regardless of the module's firmware version. These communicators can be split into two (2) categories, which are cell-only and dual-path. Note that the dual-path models will use a hardwired ethernet connection for IP connectivity.
The cell-only communicators from the Interlogix XT-511 Series are listed below:
- Alarm.com XT-511-US-AT (AT&T LTE)
- Alarm.com XT-511-US-VZ (Verizon LTE)
- Alarm.com XT-511-CA-TL (Telus LTE) (Canada Only)
The dual-path communicators from the Interlogix XT-511 Series are listed below:
- Alarm.com XT-511-US-DP-AT (AT&T LTE & IP)
- Alarm.com XT-511-US-DP-VZ (Verizon LTE & IP)
There are also communicators from the Interlogix 600-1048 Series that will work with the Interlogix Simon XTi-5i System. But there is something very important to keep in mind if you intend on using one of these communicators. You can only use an Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicator with an XTi-5i if it is running module firmware version 191C or higher. This restriction does not apply to the other, older Interlogix Simon Series Panels, only the XTi-5i.
However, if you have an Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicator that is running a module firmware version lower than 191C, then there is a chance that it will still work. If the module is running a firmware version of 189A to 191, then you can install it inside the Simon XTi-5i and register it with Alarm.com. From there, you can have Alarm.com push down an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update to the module to get it to 191C. This will let it be used with the Simon XTi-5i. But if the module firmware version is 188 or lower, then the communicator can never be used with a Simon XTi-5i. You would still be able to physically install the communicator and register it with Alarm.com, but Alarm.com will not allow you to push down the firmware update to get it to 191C. In that case, the communicator would need to be replaced entirely.
There is no quick way to determine the module firmware version for an Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicator just by looking at it. The best way to determine the module firmware version for an Interlogix 600-1048 Series Communicator is to have an alarm monitoring company run the IMEI number for the device to determine this information. The monitoring company will be able to determine if the communicator can receive a firmware update to work with the Interlogix Simon XTi-5i, or if it needs to be totally replaced. If you email Alarm Grid at support@alarmgrid.com with the IMEI number for a communicator, we will be happy to tell you if it can be activated for monitoring service. We do not charge any fees for checking IMEI numbers.
Any new Interlogix 600-1048 Series Cellular Communicator that you purchase from Alarm Grid should be running the latest firmware version and be compatible with the Simon XTi-5i System. But you must be very careful if you purchase a used Interlogix 600-1048 Cellular Communicator from another source. There is a good chance that it will be an older module and be completely incompatible with a Simon XTi-5i. Try and check the IMEI number before buying so that you can make sure that it will work.
With all of that out of the way, the Interlogix 600-1048 Communicators are only available in cellular-only options. There are no dual-path communicators available from this lineup. For the sake of this FAQ, we will only be listing the LTE communicators from this lineup. This is because the older 3G and CDMA modules can no longer be activated. Just remember that the communicators from this lineup will only work if they are running module firmware version 191C or higher. And only communicators running module firmware version 189A to 191 can be upgraded OTA to 191C. This is very important if you decide to try and use one of these communicators with a Simon XTi-5i.
The Interlogix 600-1048 Communicators listed below will work with the Interlogix Simon XTi-5i, as long as the firmware requirement is met:
- Interlogix 600-1048-XT-LTE-AT (AT&T LTE)
- Interlogix 600-1048-XT-LTE-VZ (Verizon LTE)
- Interlogix 600-1048-XT-LTE-TL (Telus LTE) (Canada Only)
