Will an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Work w/o a Phone Line?

Yes, an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 will work without a phone line. These systems can still receive alarm monitoring service from a cellular connection. To use cellular with these panels, a cellular communication module must be added, and the user must obtain a cellular monitoring plan.

If no add-ons are used with an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5, these systems will only support a traditional phone line connection. This type of communication path is discouraged, due to its slow speeds and poor reliability. But this is the only monitoring option for a Simon XTi or XTi-5 System that has not been upgraded to cellular.

A Simon XTi or XTi-5 System can also be used as a local sounder without any monitoring. This means that the system can produce sounds to alert those on-site to an alarm event. It can also chime whenever sensors are activated. However, the system will not be able to alert the user or a central station if an alarm were to occur while they were off-site. Therefore, we do not recommend using an alarm system as strictly a local sounder.

For an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 System, we strongly recommend upgrading to a cellular connection. Cellular service is very reliable, and it provides the fast communication speeds that one would expect out of a modern alarm system. Most security experts consider cellular connectivity to be the gold standard for alarm systems. Additionally, a cellular connection will allow the system to work with the Alarm.com Interactive Service. This service provides an excellent secondary access point for an alarm system, and it also allows users to control their system remotely using the Alarm.com Mobile App.

In order to use a cellular connection, a user must first install a cellular module in the panel. We recommend using an LTE module, since it will provide the fastest speeds and remain active for many years. A user will also need to obtain an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service.
