Description
The Qolsys IQ Motion sensor is one device that does the job of several. With motion sensing, body heat detection, and customizable reactions, this can keep your home, family, and belongings secure while you’re away or asleep.
Features and Benefits
The first thing you may notice about the Qolsys IQ Motion is its small size. It comes in at 2.4 inches wide and 3.4 inches long so that it won’t take up too much space. With a clean, white finish, it looks great with most any décor. You won’t notice it’s there until you need it.
This device offers coverage for up to 35 feet in an open area. That means that it can protect even the largest areas in your home. Not only will this sensor alert you to motion, but it also looks out for body heat. It secures your home against criminal trespassers of all kinds.
You can set this sensor to pet mode. In this way, pets up to 40 pounds may not accidentally set off the alarm. However, too much activity, such as jumping on the couch, could cause a false alarm. Changing the angle of your motion sensor can help solve this problem.
You’re in charge with the IQ Motion. When paired with your IQ Panel, you can tell the sensor what to do when it detects motion. For example, you can wire it to turn on a light in the room. It’s customized security right at your fingertips.
When you download and use the mobile app, you can check the status of the IQ Motion at any time. It will let you know if it has detected anything. You can install this device on corners and walls, or just set it on a shelf. Please note that this unit cannot “see” through walls or other objects to detect motion.
Technical Specifications
In open air, the wireless signal can reach your IQ panel from up to 600 feet away. It will put a code out for each of the following actions:
• Tamper
• Tamper restore
• Alarm detects motion
• Alarm restore
• Supervisory
• Low Battery
The Qolsys IQ Motion sensor transmits at a frequency of 319.5MHz and the transmitter bandwidth is 24KHz. The modulation type is ASK-OOK and it has an RF output power of 91.1dBuV. It runs on two AAA alkaline batteries.
Although this detector cannot see things directly underneath it, it has a maximum angle of 80 degrees. That’s impressive, especially for the price.
Installation
The first step in installing this sensor is to decide where to mount it. This device can go in the corner of two walls, on a flat wall, or on a mantle or shelf. You should aim to keep the motion sensor away from HVAC ducts and ceiling fans since these can cause malfunctions.
If you install an IQ Motion detector near a window, you may wish to point it away from the window. Doing this can help ensure that movement outside the area does not cause a false alarm. Finally, installing the unit at least six feet high can optimize performance.
This motion sensor does not move, so make sure to install it in a place that allows it to monitor most of the room. See the chart in your installation instructions to understand how much room the sensor will observe.
Once you have found the perfect spot on which to mount your IQ Motion, you can begin the installation process. First, open the device casing and remove the battery tabs. You should find two AAA alkaline batteries. Be sure to replace these batteries at least every three years.
Next, see the back of the unit and notice the three mounting options. You may need to consult your installation instructions to find the mounting holes that will fit your installation preference. Once you’ve determined how best to mount your unit, secure all hardware to the wall.
Enroll in IQ Panel
Once you have mounted the device to the wall, it’s time to enroll it into your IQ Panel. This simple step will get your Qolsys IQ Motion detector running and keep your home safe.
First, put your IQ Panel into “Auto Learn” mode. If you’re not sure how to do this, consult your panel’s instructions.
Then, open and close the case on the device. Doing this will trip the tamper sensor and cause your IQ Motion to send out a signal. Once your IQ Panel reads the signal, it will chime and ask you to complete the setup on it.
At this time, you can customize the settings on your motion sensor. You can tell it what to do if an intruder is detected and change the name of the sensor in your system. Once you have customized the settings, touch the “ADD” button. Now your IQ Motion is ready to protect.
The Qolsys IQ Motion detector is so much more than a simple sensor. It reads body temperature and movement to determine threat levels. It can sync with your IQ panel to allow you to customize options and create your ultimate security system.
Note: Qolsys sensors operate at 319.5 MHz. They will not work with the 345 MHz and the 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. They are designed for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus and other 319.5 MHz systems.
