Winland TA-40
Wired, Fixed Temperature Freeze Alert
Description
The Winland TA-40 is a simple temperature alert. It has a single Normally Closed (NC) output that opens when the ambient temperature drops below 39.2℉ (+4℃). This can mean the difference between busted pipes, and damage, or a happy home or business owner. Don't be caught out in the cold.
The Winland TA-40 is a simple and inexpensive way to monitor for a possible freeze condition in nearly any environment. It is particularly helpful in areas where climate control may not be a 24/7 endeavor. Whether it's a warehouse, with climate control only in a certain area where sensitive inventory is stored, or a second home where the temperature is kept at a lower than normal temperature in winter, the Winland TA-40 is an excellent way to be sure the temperature doesn't drop to unacceptable levels.
There is no input power required to operate the TA-40. You simply install it in the area where you want to monitor the temperature. If there is climate control, a good rule is to mount a temperature sensor in the same area where the thermostat is mounted. If multiple thermostats are in use, then multiple TA-40's should also be employed. If there are multiple floors, there should be at least one TA-40 on each floor. Aside from these rules, the environment, ventilation, efficiency of any climate control system and the size of the area would all need to be considered in deciding where, and how many, TA-40's should be installed.
The TA-40 is of no use unless it is connected to an alarm panel. It has no display, and can only notify of a low-temperature condition if its NC output is connected either to a zone on an alarm panel, or an input on a wireless transmitter that will then signal an alarm panel. The TA-40 has two (2) screws each screw should have a wire connected to it, and the other end of that wire should be connected to either an alarm panel zone input, or to a wireless transmitter input. From there, as long as the ambient temperature stays above 39.2℉ (+4℃) status is normal. When the temperature drops below the threshold, the contact on the TA-40 will open and signal an alarm or trouble, depending on how the zone has been programmed.
The TA-40 is not meant to be installed in a cooler or freezer. Moisture and freezing temperature may cause it to malfunction. If you need to monitor a cooler or freezer, use the Winland EA400 or Winland EA200 instead. These devices have a remote probe that is meant to be installed in a cooler or freezer while the alarm output is mounted outside the freezer.
