Wireless Door Sensors and Window Alarm Sensors
The large selection of wireless door and window sensors can make the process of selecting the one that you need a little bit daunting. You may consider perusing by brand, if you are looking for a contact that works with your system specifically. That said, there are hundreds of options to choose from, and if you are looking to purchase a security system, seeing the vast selection available in each brand may help you make your decision.
The incredible variety of small and large magnets and contacts ensures that there is definitely something available for your specific needs. Whether it is a recessed contact or one of the more popular surface contacts, there is something to meet every project and budget need.
For those less familiar with what they are looking for, this is the perfect place to begin. First off, door sensors and window sensors are the same. A Honeywell 5816 is Honeywell's most popular surface mount wireless door and window contact. With a 200 foot range, this high quality, low cost magnet and sensor can be placed on either the window sill or the frame of a door. Since these are wireless sensors, they communicate with the main unit over radio frequency, generally. There are sensors that work over Z-Wave, but those are generally cheaper systems that we have decided not to sell as of yet. The implications of this communication pathway means that unlike their wired counterparts, these sensors will ONLY work with systems dawning their respective brands; Honeywell sensors with Honeywell security systems, GE sensors with GE systems.
There are some exceptions to this rule. 2GIG, for example, will work with the Honeywell sensors, but Honeywell will not work with the 2GIG-specific sensors. Even so, it is our recommendation that when shopping for sensors to pair with a security system of a specific brand, for the sake of reliability, purchase sensors that are of the same brand as the system being shopped for. This will avoid potential problems and will ensure that your system is future proof (what if 2GIG stops supporting Honeywell sensors at some point in the future?).
