Which Keypad Is Compatible With A Qolsys IQ Panel 4?

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 can support both touchscreen and push-button auxiliary keypads. The Qolsys IQ Remote PG provides a secondary touchscreen control point. The DSC WS9LCDWF9 and HS2LCDWF9 wireless keypads can be used to add push-button control. There are even wired keypad options available.

Out of the box, every Qolsys IQ Panel 4 can support PowerG wireless sensors. On this panel, PowerG devices have a transmitting range of up to 4,000' (1219m). If that range isn't enough, the PowerG Repeater can also be used. Most IQ Panel 4s also support a legacy RF frequency. However, there is a version of the panel that supports PowerG sensors only. This means that every version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 can support the IQ Remote-PG using the PowerG wireless protocol. This is important because it allows you to use a secondary keypad in nearly any building that is located on the same property as the main control panel.

Each IQ Remote-PG can also support a connection with the panel using WIFI. For those compatible panels that don't support PowerG, a WIFI connection can be used. For example, each IQ4 Hub only supports a single wireless security frequency. So, not every version of the panel offers PowerG as an option, but every IQ4 Hub does support WIFI. In a WIFI connection, the panel needs to be within WIFI range of the router or an access point, as does the keypad. It's not about how close the panel and keypad are to each other.

For those users who don't want a secondary touchscreen keypad, but just want a quick way to arm, disarm, and check security status, the DSC HS2LCDWF9 and the WS9LCDWF9 keypads can be used. These are both DSC PowerG keypads. There have been some issues with the WS9LCDWF9, the keypad will learn in, but then after some time may display a message of "Keypad Not Recognized." So, if you're looking to purchase a new keypad, we recommend the HS2LCDWF9. A firmware update may resolve those issues in the future.

These keypads are paired with the panel in the same way as a PowerG sensor, through Security Sensor Programming. They use a Device Type of Keypad, and Sensor Groups 0 - 7 pertain to keypads as seen in the panel's Install Guide on Pages 71 and 72. Always be sure that your panel is on the latest firmware version to achieve the best experience possible. The push-button keypads allow you to see the status of the security system, arm, and disarm.

For those users who will be converting wired zones to wireless for use with a new Qolsys IQ Panel 4, the DSC PG9WLSHW8 is a nine-zone wired-to-wireless converter module. It offers the excellent range of PowerG, so if the panel needs to be installed away from the termination point for the wired zones, it should pose no problem. When this converter module is in use, it offers a CORBUS® connection for devices such as wired keypads, auxiliary power, and even wired expansion modules.

Each of the above-referenced translator modules can support up to four (4) wired keypads, though it is recommended to restrict it to two (2) per module when possible. Each IQ Panel 4 can support up to two (2) converter modules. So each panel can have up to eight (8) wired keypads. The keypads that are supported are the HS2LCD, HS2ICN, HS2LCDP, and HS2ICNP.
