With the Lutron Caseta Lamp Dimmer Starter Kit, it is easy for new users to achieve a robust and capable smart lighting setup. Everything a new user needs is included. Inside the kit, there is a Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge, two Lamp Dimmer Modules, two Pico Remotes and two mounting pedestals.

The central hub of a Lutron Smart Lighting System is the Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge. Any commands sent through the Lutron Mobile App, Apple HomeKit or voice commands sent through Siri, Google Home or Amazon Alexa are first passed through the smart bridge. The bridge will then forward the command to the appropriate lamp dimmer module to control the lights. For this type of operation, the bridge is the important facilitator that makes it all possible. The bridge also allows the creation of smart scenes so that the lights respond on a set schedule and/or with a geofencing location.

But while the smart bridge is running the show from the behind the scenes, the Lutron Lamp Dimmer Modules are on the front-lines in the spotlight. Each module plugs conveniently into any standard wall outlet. Then, there are two sub-outlets on each module that are exclusively designed for lamps or floor lights. Once the light is plugged into the module, the user can control the device from the Lutron App or using voice commands through a smart assistant. The module provides options for turning the lights on and off and for dimming the lights to the desired level.

If a user doesn't want to pull up the Lutron Mobile App or use a smart assistant, they can locally control their dimmer module using one of their two Pico Remotes. These are simple handheld remotes that provide basic functionality for operating the dimmer modules. Each remote can be programmed to work with a specific dimmer module. The mounting pedestals allow the user to mount their Pico Remote on a table. If you prefer wall mounting the Pico remotes you can install the wallbox adapter (purchased separately).

With firmware update 1.07, the Honeywell Lyric Controller can also be used with Apple HomeKit. As a result, the dimmer modules can be set to activate with security events on the Lyric System. This can include things like arming or disarming the panel or activating a motion sensor or door contact.
