Lutron Caseta PD-5NE
In-Wall Smart Dimmer ELV+
Description
The Lutron Caseta In-Wall Smart Dimmer ELV+ Switch provides a user with convenient operation and secondary control points for wireless remotes and control from an app. The smart in-wall switch requires a neutral wire for installation. It simply swaps in place with a traditional light switch.
The main reason for a user to get started with smart lighting is so that they can control their lights remotely using a mobile app and through voice commands sent through smart assistant devices. Alternatively, the in-wall switch can also be operated on-site using a wireless Pico Remote. This allows for secondary local control without requiring an electrician to run a "Traveler" wire. The Lutron In-Wall Smart Dimmer ELV+ Switch is designed for use with electronic low voltage (ELV) loads, but other light bulb types are also supported. These are unique bulbs that will not work on the regular Caseta Neutral Switch.
The Lutron PD-5NE In-Wall Switch provides support for up to 250 watts for dimmable LED or CFL bulbs, 500 watts for incandescent, halogen or ELV bulbs or 400 watts of MLV (Magnetic Low Voltage) bulbs. A 10 watt minimum load is required for the switch to function properly. To get the most out of the device, we strongly recommend adding a Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge to integrate remote access with the Lutron Mobile App and Apple HomeKit. The bridge will also add compatibility with voice command functions such as Siri, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
Honeywell's MR7 firmware release for the Lyric Controller added Apple HomeKit compatibility. Since the Caseta Smart Hub can speak with HomeKitm you can introduce security triggers to automation rules on the HomeKit App. Security actions, like arming or disarming, can generate automated actions, such as turning a group of Lutron Caseta Lights on or off.
