Description
In this video, Jarrett from Alarm Grid teaches users how to use a Honeywell Z-Wave Thermostat with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System has a built-in Z-Wave controller for supporting these devices. You can use pretty much any Z-Wave thermostat, regardless of the manufacturer.
The Z-Wave wireless protocol is designed to be universal and work across different manufacturers. As a result, you should have no problem using a Honeywell Z-Wave Thermostat with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, just like you would have no problem using a Z-Wave thermostat from a different manufacturer. Virtually any Z-Wave thermostat will function on the system exactly the same.
By pairing a Z-Wave thermostat with the IQ Panel 2 Plus, you will be able to control it directly from the system. If the system is monitored, you will also be able to control it through an interactive service platform, such as Alarm.com. This is where the real benefit of using a Z-Wave thermostat with the IQ Panel 2 Plus arises, and it will really allow you to get the very most out of the device.
By using the thermostat with Alarm.com, you can control the temperature from virtually anywhere using the Alarm.com Mobile App on your smartphone. You can also establish smart scenes for the thermostat so that it activates automatically based on a schedule or with certain system events. These smart scenes can be conveniently created from the Alarm.com website or mobile app.
An excellent Honeywell Z-Wave Thermostat to use with the IQ Panel 2 Plus is the Honeywell T6 Pro. This thermostat is unique in that it can be used without common power from a "C-Wire". In that case, the thermostat would receive all its power from batteries. You just want to be aware that without using common power, the T6 will not operate as a Z-Wave repeater for other Z-Wave devices.

Hey DIYers. Jarrett with Alarm Grid here. Today we're going to be discussing if you can use a Honeywell Z Wave thermostat with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 plus. Yes, you cab us Z Wave thermostat or Honeywell Z Wave thermostat with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 plus. The Qolsys IQ panel 2 plus, it has a built in Z Wave module so that it allows you to be able to use Z Wave devices. Now the Honeywell Z Wave thermostat, being one of them, so you can definitely integrate that with the system. Now just keep in mind that if you are looking to use Z Wave devices, you need to make sure that you at least have a system or a working Z Wave controller hub. So basically, what I mean by that is it allow this hub, or the Z Wave controller allows you to be able to use Z Wave devices with that system, and be able to control those Z Wave devices with setting of different scenes, or just being able to control it remotely through your phone. So when you're setting up a Z Wave controller hub, you just want to make sure that it is able to send or receive signals for those Z Wave devices that you have set up. Now most alarm systems they do have Z Wave module built into it, so you can have the system control your Z Wave devices and be the center hub or the central hub of your Z Wave network. Now the Qolsys IQ panel 2 plus is one of those alarm systems that has a Z Wave built into it, and it also has Z wave plus built into it as well so that it can be able to actually support Z Wave plus devices and you can create a Z Wave plus mesh network as well. Now when it goes Z Wave devices, manufacturer doesn't really come into play in regards to compatibility for the Z Wave device and the alarm system to be able to control it. So what I mean by that is as long as these Z Wave devices are manufactured in the same region that the alarm system is manufactured, then they will be able to work because they are made or built to be able to work with that specific frequency. So North America, if these Z Wave devices were manufactured in North America, the Qolsys IQ panel 2 plus was all manufacturer North America as well so this system can work with North American Z Wave devices because they are made to work on that same frequency. So when you're setting up this thermostat, it is very easy for DIY users because you're not setting up a common power C wire when you're installing this thermostat, which basically allows you to install the thermostat without having to configure any high voltage wires. Now when you're programming or enrolling this thermostat into the Qolsys panel, it is a very simple process. It's very easy to use. It's very easy to set up. And you should definitely appreciate the intuitiveness and the clean design of this thermostat as well. It is a very fantastic thermostat. It works great. And it just, it looks very nice when it's installed. Now when you do enroll this thermostat into your Z Wave-- into your Qolsys panel, you'll have a lot of advantages being able to control that thermostat. So number one, you'll be able to control the thermostat locally in the panel. You can either turn up the heat. You can turn down the heat just by walking up to the system, tapping it, and then going over to the Z Wave area and just changing the thermostat. If you wanted to-- if you had a monitoring plan that allows access to alarm.com, you can even control this thermostat remotely through alarm.com wherever you are. You can just jump on the mobile app and control alarm through your mobile app on your phone. You can control the Z Wave thermostat. You could turn on the heat, you turn up the heat. You can even control alarm.com through a website if you wanted to if you just log in on a computer. You can do all of that remotely. And then the other thing is you can set up different Z Wave scenes with this thermostat. And what I mean by scenes is it allows you to be able to create scenarios of when you would like a thermostat to turn on or turn off automatically, right. So for example, if you were on your way home and you wanted this thermostat to start cooling down your home at 6 PM, right. You can set up a Z Wave scene to be able to turn on the thermostat at like 5:00 PM, or even at sunset when it picks it up. You can have the thermostat turn on the heat when you're on your way home. If you were to disarm the system, you can set up a scene to be able to turn on the thermostat automatically and then just start cooling down your home or even heating up your home. You can do all that type of stuff locally on the panel or through alarm.com as well. So the question was if you can set up a Honeywell Z Wave thermostat with the Qolsys IQ panel 2 plus, the answer is definitely yes.
