Hi DIYers! We are excited to inform you that the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 AT&T LTE Communicator is here! This cellular communicator works with both the original 2GIG GC3 and the new 2GIG GC3e. By installing and activating this communicator, you can use your 2GIG Security System with Alarm.com.

This update can be pushed down to your panel from Alarm.com by your monitoring company for a small fee. Alarm Grid customers can contact us to do this. You can also apply the update locally at the panel using a USB drive. Updating locally is completely free. More information on how to apply the update locally can be found here.

Once you have installed and activated the communicator, you will be able to control your system using Alarm.com. This includes both the Alarm.com website and the Alarm.com Mobile App for Android and iOS devices. By accessing Alarm.com, you can arm/disarm, check current system status, control Z-Wave devices, and more. Just remember that you will need a compatible monitoring plan, such as a Gold or Platinum Plan from Alarm Grid.

The important thing about this communicator is that it works across the AT&T LTE Network. Cellular service providers like AT&T intend to keep their LTE networks running well into the very distant future. They have invested huge amounts of money into these networks, and they intend to use them for the long-term. An LTE communicator like the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 AT&T LTE Communicator is an excellent investment, as it will keep your system monitored for many years to come. While we will certainly be showing off these features in greater detail sometime in the near future, for now we just want to show you how to download the new firmware. You can have the update pushed down automatically from the Alarm.com servers free of charge. Alarm Grid customers can do this by emailing us at support@alarmgrid.com. You will need to have the panel monitored with Alarm Grid and connected to WIFI for us to do this.

But the easiest way to update is to apply the update yourself at the panel. Again, make sure your system is monitored and connected to WIFI before you begin. It will also need to be plugged-in and not have a low-battery condition. Start from the main screen of the system. Click on the small grey bar at the top. Choose Settings > Advanced Settings > Installer Code (default 1111) > Upgrade Software > Patch Tag > type in iqpanel2.4.0 > OK > Upgrade Using Network. If done correctly, the new firmware update should be downloaded. Once it has been completely downloaded, press "OK" to begin the update process. The panel will reboot as part of the update. The entire process will take around five (5) minutes and is complete after the reboot.

We would also like to use this opportunity to provide an update on Hurricane Dorian. As you may know, the main headquarters for Alarm Grid is located in South Florida. It is very likely that we will experience at least some of the effects of the hurricane. As a result, it is possible that our main headquarters may be closed Tuesday, September 3, 2019. It is impossible for us to make that determination at this time. We just want to make you aware of that possibility.

Alarm Grid has a couple of smaller offices further north in the United States that will not be affected by the hurricane. These offices will maintain business as usual Tuesday, September 3rd, regardless of what happens to our main headquarters. These technicians will still be around to answer your calls and reply to your emails. But please understand that we may be working with a limited staff. Additionally, it's possible that there may be shipping delays on orders. Again, we cannot confirm anything at this time. We are only making you aware of what might happen. We appreciate your understanding.

We also want to make it very clear that Hurricane Dorian will NOT affect your monitoring service. As you know, Alarm Grid is partnered with Criticom Monitoring Services for alarm monitoring. Criticom operates three (3) stations - one in Florida, one in California, and one in New Jersey. It is possible that the Florida station may go offline during the storm. If that happens, any incoming signals will be rerouted to one of the other monitoring centers. A central station will still be alerted to any alarm that may occur on your system, and action will be taken. This redundancy is a big reason why we chose Criticom as our monitoring partner.

Again, we are not saying that the Criticom Florida monitoring station will go offline. We are just making you aware of that possibility. And even if it does, it will have no impact on any of our monitored customers. To anyone being affected by Hurricane Dorian, we understand what you are going through. We wish you nothing but safety for yourself and your loved ones. Please stay safe and take proper precaution during this storm. We all hope to be back tomorrow to provide you with outstanding service and support. And if circumstances prevent that, we will be back as soon as possible.

Hi DIYers! Today, we are very excited to talk about the all-new Z-Wave Plus lighting products from Resideo. These lights are very easy to use, and they will work with nearly any security system that supports Z-Wave. They will certainly make a great addition to any growing smart home.


Resideo (formerly Honeywell and Ademco) has been long-known for their alarm control panels, sensors, and thermostats. But they really haven't made much of a splash in terms of smart lighting equipment. But that should change with these brand-new lights. The lineup has everything you need to create a robust and capable lighting setup.

All of these products use Z-Wave Plus technology to communicate with a central hub. We strongly recommend making sure your Z-Wave controller is certified for Z-Wave Plus so that you get the maximum wireless signal range. Some systems that support Z-Wave Plus include the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus and the 2GIG GC3e. If you have monitoring service and access to Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com, then you can control your lights remotely and use them with smart scenes.

These devices are all super easy to program with your alarm system or other Z-Wave hub. When enrolling, you should always make sure to exclude the device from the network first. This will clear out any information and ensure that the device can be enrolled successfully. Then enroll the device by putting the controller into its inclusion mode and activating the inclusion function on the light. It should successfully pair with the network.

Now that you know a little bit about the lights in general, let's take a quick look at all of the new products individually:

  • Resideo Z5SWITCH - An in-wall light switch that is used to control hardwired lights or a ceiling fan. Replaces the existing in-wall switch.
  • Resideo Z5DIMMER - An in-wall dimmer switch that is used to control hardwired lights. The light bulbs must support dimming to be used in that manner. Replaces the existing in-wall switch.
  • Resideo Z53WSWITCH - An in-wall 3-way switch that is used with the Z5SWITCH and Z5DIMMER. You can use multiple Z53SWITCH devices to achieve up to a 6-way lighting configuration. Please note that a traveler wire is required for use.
  • Resideo Z5SWPID - A plug-in switch that is used for controlling a lamp or other connected device. It features a manual ON/OFF switch and a pass-through "non-Z-Wave" outlet.
  • Resideo Z5DIMPID - A plug-in dimmer module that is used for controlling a lamp. The light bulbs must support dimming to be used in that manner. It features a manual ON/OFF switch and a pass-through "non-Z-Wave" outlet.
  • Resideo Z5SWPIO - A plug-in switch that is suitable for outdoor use. Great for operating holiday lights or other outdoor lighting fixtures. It does not include a pass-through outlet.
  • Resideo Z5OUTLET - An in-wall AC outlet that provides Z-Wave Plus control to the connected device. The bottom port uses Z-Wave Plus, while the top port is always active. Replaces an existing outlet.

All of these smart lighting products are available right now from Alarm Grid! They're great for anyone looking to create a new smart lighting network or expand upon an existing one. We have learned that the LYNX Connect App has been discontinued. The app can no longer be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Users wanting a second on-site option for controlling a LYNX Touch should use either a keypad or Total Connect 2.0, or upgrade to the Lyric.

The LYNX Connect App is a handy tool for many LYNX Touch users, It allows users to control a LYNX Touch System from a separate on-site device, all while enjoying the same user interface as the LYNX Touch System itself. The LYNX Touch Panel must have an L5100-WIFI Card installed and be on the same WIFI network as the device that is using the app to control the system. The app is designed for use with the L5100, L5200, L5210, and L7000 systems.

A very common application of the LYNX Connect App is to use it on a tablet that is mounted to the wall. By doing this, you can essentially have the tablet operate as a touchscreen keypad for the system. Many users find this to be a desirable option, as it is really the only way to obtain a secondary touchscreen controller for a LYNX Touch. By using a cheap tablet, you can readily establish a great secondary keypad for your system. Unfortunately, the discontinuation of the app means that this is no longer an option for many LYNX Touch users.

It turns out that all Firmware Versions 9 and higher for the LYNX Touch Systems does not work with the LYNX Connect App. In order to support the LTE communicators, a LYNX Touch System will need to be on some Firmware Revision that is higher than Firmware Version 9. The minimum Firmware Revision required depends on which LTE module you are using.

The LTE-L57A requires Firmware Revision 9.00.209 or higher, while the LTE-L57V requires Firmware Revision 9.00.201 or higher. Rather than update the app to make it compatible with the newer versions, Resideo made the decision to discontinue support. As a result, it is no longer possible to get the app for an Android or iOS device. Remember that the latest LYNX Touch Firmware Version is only available for the L5200, L5210 and L7000 Systems. If you have an L5100, then your system is running a lower Firmware Version, and it will still work with the app.

If you already have the LYNX Connect App downloaded, and your LYNX Touch System is running less than Firmware Version 9, then you can still continue to use the app. Many L5210 and L7000 users who use IP-only monitoring never upgraded to the latest Firmware Version. This is because the newer Firmware Versions only really benefit users with cellular connectivity. Just be aware that if you ever need to replace your Android or iOS device, you will not be able to re-download the app. And if you ever upgrade to Firmware Version 9 or higher on your panel, then the app will no longer work.

Remember that Firmware Version 9.00.201 or higher is needed to use the LTE-L57V, and Firmware Version 9.00209 or higher is needed to use an LTE-L57A. These updates are very important, as LTE is so crucial. If you want to replace a tablet that served as a secondary keypad using the LYNX Connect App, then you have a couple of options available. One possibility is to get a Honeywell 5828 or Honeywell 5828V Keypad. Both keypads will pair nicely with any LYNX Touch System.

You might also consider using Total Connect 2.0. This is an interactive monitoring platform that you can use to control your system from anywhere. TC2 is even more versatile and beneficial than the LYNX Connect App. This platform can be used to access the alarm system from virtually anywhere using the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App. Since you can access it on a smartphone, many users find that it is even more convenient than setting up a second keypad.

Another option is to upgrade to the Resideo Lyric Alarm System. The Lyric has its own app called the MyHome Controller App that works in the same manner as the LYNX Connect App. The MyHome Controller app is still actively supported by Resideo, and it allows a tablet or smartphone to serve as a reliable secondary keypad. Other benefits for the Lyric include HomeKit compatibility, increased zone support, and its encrypted sensor options.

Back in February, a tragedy occurred. A man accidentally left his vehicle running in his garage. He went to bed with his dog by his side. The next morning, the man was found dead in his bed. His dog was seizing on the floor and later died. The cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless and tasteless gas that kills hundreds of people every single year. Most casualties caused by carbon monoxide occur without the individual realizing they are being affected before it is too late. The gas can render people and pets unconscious without them even realizing what is happening. If no help is provided, then it is likely that they will never wake up.

When people think of carbon monoxide deaths, they usually think of incidents that occur during the winter months when heaters are commonly used to heat buildings. But not every CO-related death is caused by a faulty heating system. Incidents like the one that occurred in February happen more often then they should. In addition, they attempt to contact the premises to make certain any occupants are aware that a Carbon Monoxide alarm has been triggered. Rescuers will be on the way to save anyone inside the building. With a quick response, most CO-related deaths can be prevented.

Users with self-monitoring service will receive text, email, and/or push notifications from Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com to let them know that a carbon monoxide alarm has occurred. Hi DIYers! Resideo has updated the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App for Android devices. The update fixes the time and date issues that some users were experiencing with SkyBell devices. It also improves the registration process for SkyBell Doorbells and provides general stability improvements.

The latest TC2 Android update is Version 5.9.3.304. With this update, the time and date for any SkyBell video should now be correct when accessed using the TC2 Mobile App for Android. Before, some users were reporting that SkyBell videos showed the incorrect time and date when accessed from an Android device. This issue has since been resolved.

Additionally, the latest update now makes it possible to register new and existing SkyBell devices from within the Android app. Users should now find it easier to register their SkyBell devices using the TC2 Mobile App for Android. The update also includes various stability fixes to make the app run smoother.

SkyBell Video Doorbell Cameras make for a great addition to any Total Connect 2.0 account. These are high-definition doorbell cameras that allow you to see exactly what is going on in front of your house at any time. You can easily access your SkyBell device and the rest of your security system through your TC2 account. Any SkyBell Clip can be viewed for up to seven (7) days from TC2, and you can store up to 400 clips per month. Check this FAQ for more information.

It is also possible to have TC2 send you an alert any time your SkyBell detects movement, or when someone rings your doorbell. This is great for knowing exactly who is at your door so that you only get up if it is important. For example, you might want to know if your unexpected visitor is your friend, or just some door-to-door sales person who isn't worth your attention. You can also use it to scare off a potential intruder who is standing outside your door. This can be done from anywhere using the app!

You do not even need a video monitoring plan to get started with a SkyBell Video DoorBell. You can use it with any monitoring plan that supports Total Connect 2.0. Getting started is super easy. Just follow the integration guide we have posted on our website. Remember that you can only have one (1) SkyBell device per TC2 account. More information can be found here.

You can easily apply this update from the Google Play Store on your Android device. Just open the Google Play Store App, and search "Total Connect 2.0". Find the TC2 app, and click "Update". Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Version 2.3.4

Starting with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, Firmware Update 2.3.4 is now available. This is a relatively minor upgrade to the system that improves recognition of the PowerG daughterboard for supporting wireless PowerG Sensors. Although you can technically apply this update to an original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System, it won't make a difference, because that system does not have a PowerG daughtercard. Since you can apply this update locally at the panel, there is no fee required to receive this update. Remember, your system must be actively monitored and connected with Alarm.com for the update to go through.

In order to apply this update, you must have your Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus connected to WIFI. The panel should be plugged into AC power, and it should not have a low-battery condition. To begin, start from the main screen of the system. Press the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Choose Settings > Advanced Settings> Installer Code (default 1111) > Upgrade Software > Patch Tag > enter iqpanel2.3.4 > OK > Upgrade Using Network. The system should begin downloading the update. Once the download is complete, the update will be applied. This process should take about five (5) minutes. The panel will reboot at this time. The process is complete after the reboot finishes.


2GIG GC3e & GC3 Firmware Version 3.2.3

The 2GIG GC3e System just became available very recently. This Firmware Update Version 3.2.3 is a great way to get your new GC3e System up and running. Additionally, existing users of the original 2GIG GC3 System can also apply this same update. The update provides support for the new AT&T LTE Communicator (coming soon!) and allows for 6-digit user codes with both the panel and compatible Z-Wave locks. It also provides various fixes and helps the system run smoother overall. It is recommended that every GC3e and GC3 user receives this update so that they can continue to get the most out of their system.

The easiest way to receive Firmware Version 3.2.3 is to simply have it pushed down from Alarm.com. To do this, the system must have an Alarm.com Cellular Communicator installed and activated. You must contact your alarm company and ask them to push the update. There will be a small fee for this service. If you don't have Alarm.com, you can get more information on our monitoring page. The latest update can also be applied directly at the panel. To do this, you must download the update file onto a USB flash drive and insert the drive into the panel. You will then be able to apply the update locally at no cost. More information on this process can be found in this helpful FAQ. Although that FAQ is specific to the original 2GIG GC3 System, the 2GIG GC3e will follow the same process. Remember, there is no cost required to update via USB.

Hi DIYers! We have exciting news today, as the Honeywell LTE-IA for VISTA Series Panels is now available! This has been eagerly anticipated by VISTA users with strong service from the AT&T LTE Network. We are sure that many of you will want to take advantage of this great new communicator!

As a dual-path communicator, the Honeywell LTE-IA can send signals thorough both a local IP network and a cellular network. It uses a hardwired ethernet connection for IP service, and it works across the AT&T LTE Network for cellular service. The communicator will use IP as its primary path, and cellular will serve as the backup.

Being able to connect with the AT&T LTE Network is the best feature of this communicator. AT&T has stated that they will support their LTE network well into the very distant future. The network will remain in-service even as newer networks like 5G are made available many years from now. AT&T invested huge amounts of money into their LTE infrastructure. Their LTE network is not going anywhere anytime soon. The result is that this communicator will keep your VISTA Panel monitored in the long-run.

The importance of reliable cellular backup cannot be stressed enough. Internet outages, and it is highly likely that your system will need to rely on its cellular connection at some point or another. As long as the cellular path is still available, your VISTA System will remain connected with the AlarmNet360 Servers. This means that you will still be able to take advantage of all the great features from Total Connect 2.0.

Speaking of Total Connect 2.0, a proper AlarmNet Communicator like the Honeywell LTE-IA is required if you want to use this service. If you didn't know, TC2 is an interactive monitoring and automation platform that you can access from anywhere. This is possible using the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App on Android and iOS devices.

By accessing TC2, you can arm and disarm your system, check its status, control Z-Wave devices (Tuxedo Touch or VAM required), view TC2 Cameras (video plan needed), and more. All you need is a compatible Honeywell System with an AlarmNet Communicator, and an appropriate alarm monitoring plan.

For the VISTA P-Series Panels, the VISTA 15P, VISTA 20P, and VISTA 21iP can all support TC2. There are just some firmware requirements you need to keep in mind. A 15P or 20P must be running firmware 9.12 or higher. A 21iP must be running firmware 3.13 or higher. If you aren't sure of the firmware, just check the PROM Chip. This is a small black chip on the panel's main board. It will have a code that begins with the letters "WA". This code will tell you the firmware version.

If you find that the PROM Chip is not high enough, don't worry! We sell new 15P PROM Chips, 20P PROM Chips, and 21iP PROM Chips. Just be aware that a 15P or 20P System will need to be at least firmware 2.0 or higher to receive a PROM Chip upgrade. Any VISTA 21iP can receive a PROM Chip upgrade.

To replace the PROM Chip, start by powering down the panel by disconnecting the backup battery and unplugging the transformer. Carefully pry off the old PROM Chip with the metal end of a binder clip. Then apply the new one by putting it in the same place and pressing it down until it clicks. Just be careful not to bend the metal prongs on the new PROM Chip! You can then power up your system by plugging the transformer back in and reconnecting the backup battery.

If you actually have better service from the Verizon LTE Network than the AT&T LTE Network, you should also know that a similar Verizon LTE Dual-Path Communicator called the Honeywell LTE-IV has been available for quite some time. Remember, the service provider for your alarm system has nothing to do with the service provider for your phone. Just go with whichever service works best in your area, regardless of which service you use for your smartphone.
