Hi DIYers! Today, we wanted to talk about how you can use Lutron Caseta on Alarm.com. This is a great way to have your Alarm.com Security System and your smart lights on one convenient platform. Controlling the devices in your home has never been this simple, and getting started is easy!

Lutron caseta p pkg1p wh lamp dimmer remote kit

As you may know, the Alarm.com integration for Lutron was made possible with the release of the PRO-model for the Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge. At this time, Alarm Grid offers the Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge PRO 2 for integrating Lutron Lights with Alarm.com. You might also know the Smart Bridge PRO 2 as the Lutron L-BDGPRO2-WH. Both names refer to the same device. With it, you can integrate all you Lutron accessories with Alarm.com.

The Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge PRO 2 serves as the central hub for your Lutron Smart Lighting setup. All your Lutron devices will communicate with this hub. This includes any Lamp Dimmer Modules, In-Wall Switches, In-Wall Dimmers, and Pico Remotes. Setup is extremely straightforward. Just connect the smart bridge to your IP router using an ethernet cable. Then pair your Lutron devices using the Lutron Mobile App. You can pair up to 50 Lutron devices.

Being able to control your Lutron Smart Lights with Alarm.com offers many advantages. For one, you can use the Alarm.com App for virtually all of your home automation control. This will allow you to control your lights from pretty much anywhere. You can also include all your Lutron Lighting devices into Alarm.com for automation operation. For example, you might have your lights turn on whenever you disarm your security system or unlock your Z-Wave door lock.

One other aspect we want to mention is the fact that both Alarm.com and Lutron are compatible with Sonos. If you didn't know, Sonos is highly respected in the smart audio community, and they have been making some outstanding sound systems and speakers throughout the years. Your can integrate your Sonos setup with Alarm.com to have music play automatically based on scenes. Lutron even offers a special audio Pico Remote specifically for use with Lutron!

Remember that you will need an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to Alarm.com to get started using the platform. Alarm Grid customers can choose from one of our Gold or Platinum Plans. More information is available on our monitoring page. From there, we will be happy to help you get started using Lutron Caseta on Alarm.com. If you have any questions, please email us at support@alarmgrid.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Kits

Last week, we announced several "encrypted" Qolsys Kits that were based around the IQ Panel 2 Plus and PowerG Sensors. Today, we have some non-encrypted kits for the 345 MHz and 433 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus models. Unlike the kits introduced last week, these kits use uni-directional "non-encrypted" sensors. We actually already had similar kits available for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus, but now the 345 MHz and 433 MHz versions are joining the fray!

An added bonus about these kits - we actually do include an encrypted PowerG Motion Sensor. It's only the door/window contacts that aren't encrypted. These kits are good if you don't necessarily care about encryption, and you want to save money versus buying the fully encrypted kits.

Hi DIYers! We are excited to inform you that the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 AT&T LTE Communicator is here! This cellular communicator works with both the original 2GIG GC3 and the new 2GIG GC3e. By installing and activating this communicator, you can use your 2GIG Security System with Alarm.com.

2gig gc3 diy wireless security system w slash 7 screenIn order to use this communicator, your 2GIG GC3 or 2GIG GC3e System must be running Firmware Version 3.2.3 or higher. This update can be pushed down to your panel from Alarm.com by your monitoring company for a small fee. Alarm Grid customers can contact us to do this. You can also apply the update locally at the panel using a USB drive. Updating locally is completely free. More information on how to apply the update locally can be found here.

Once you have installed and activated the communicator, you will be able to control your system using Alarm.com. This includes both the Alarm.com website and the Alarm.com Mobile App for Android and iOS devices. By accessing Alarm.com, you can arm/disarm, check current system status, control Z-Wave devices, and more. Just remember that you will need a compatible monitoring plan, such as a Gold or Platinum Plan from Alarm Grid.

The important thing about this communicator is that it works across the AT&T LTE Network. Cellular service providers like AT&T intend to keep their LTE networks running well into the very distant future. They have invested huge amounts of money into these networks, and they intend to use them for the long-term. An LTE communicator like the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 AT&T LTE Communicator is an excellent investment, as it will keep your system monitored for many years to come. We also sell LTE communicators for other security systems here.

If you have any questions about the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 or any other cellular communicator, please reach out to us. The best way to contact us is to email support@alarmgrid.com. You should also email us if you are an Alarm Grid customer looking to have a firmware update pushed down to your panel. Remember that over-the-air (OTA) updates for these panels will incur a small fee. We pass this fee along to our customers with no mark-up. We look forward to hearing from you!

When thinking about home security, many people mistakenly believe that it is always an expensive endeavor. The truth is that the cost can range from extremely affordable to exceedingly pricey. Today, we're here to tell you that home security does not have to cost you an arm and a leg.

Setting up a home security system is a worthwhile investment for any homeowner or renter. Protecting your assets is extremely important, and you can even save money on your homeowner's insurance. And if you decide to move, you can either bring the system with you, or leave it at the property to increase your home's resell value.

How much you spend on home security truly depends upon your needs. While you can certainly spend a large sum of money monitoring your home, the reality is that you don't have to break the bank. At Alarm Grid, we offer monitoring plans for all budgets. Our self-monitoring plans start at just $10 per month, while our central station monitoring plans start at just $15 per month.

Keep in mind that you will needs a central station monitoring plan to receive a certificate of alarm (CoA) and save money on your homeowner's insurance premium. These savings can vary significantly, so make sure to check with your insurance company to find out how much you can save. Many homeowners find that monitoring an alarm system actually pays for itself due to the insurance savings!

Honeywell sixminict wireless door slash window contact for lyric

The system you purchase also makes a big difference in your monthly monitoring costs. Many panels require you to upgrade to a cellular plan for monitoring service. Cellular monitoring has a higher monthly cost than IP-only monitoring, so make sure to keep this in mind. Although we always recommend using cellular for its superb reliability, we also understand that some users are comfortable with IP monitoring service.

If you do decide to go with IP-only monitoring, just make sure that the internet in your home is reliable. A downed internet connection will leave your home unmonitored and vulnerable. You will also want to get a panel that can be used with IP-only service. Nearly all of the Honeywell Panels we sell are suitable for this type of monitoring.

We recommend the Resideo Lyric Controller for IP-only monitoring. This system has a built-in WIFI card, so you won't need to get any add-ons to get the panel up and running. You can also easily add a cellular communicator if you decide to upgrade your service later on. We also sell some Lyric System Kits that include everything you need to get started with alarm monitoring service. There is a 3-1 kit for smaller homes, and a 10-1 kit for larger homes.

Honeywell lyricpk lyric security system w 3 door window sensor

Also remember that you do not need to buy a system from Alarm Grid to receive our monitoring service. If you can find a system elsewhere for a lower price, then go for it. We do recommend contacting us before making the purchase to make sure it's a system we can monitor. Our security system planners will be glad to help you design your system from start to finish.

What else can you do to keep costs low? Well we definitely recommend going with a DIY, no-contract monitoring company like Alarm Grid. DIY means do-it-yourself. You can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars by installing your security system yourself. While installing your own system might seem like a challenge, it really doesn't have to be. In fact, the Lyric Kits we mentioned before can technically be installed using nothing more than a screwdriver!

The other important thing is to make sure the security company you choose is no-contract. You can be left on the hook for huge amounts of money if you get stuck in a contract. And if there's ever an emergency and you need to suddenly cancel your service, you will be very glad that you chose a no-contract company. At Alarm Grid, you can easily discontinue your monitoring service at the end of your monthly payment cycle and then resume service when you are ready.

Also remember that Alarm Grid has no added fees. This means that you never pay extra to start or stop your service. What you see is exactly what you get. We do this to make our monitoring service as accessible to many people as possible. If you are intereste in learning more about what we offer, we encourage you to check out our monitoring page for more information.

You are also more than welcome to talk with us before you make your decision. We would love to speak with you if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to get a hold of us is to email support@alarmgrid.com. We will check your email at our earliest convenience and reply back as soon as possible. You may also call us at (888) 818-7728 during our regular business hours of 9am to 8pm EST. We look forward to hearing from you, and we hope to make you a valued member of the Alarm Grid family!

Hi DIYers! Today, we are very excited to talk about the all-new Z-Wave Plus lighting products from Resideo. These lights are very easy to use, and they will work with nearly any security system that supports Z-Wave. They will certainly make a great addition to any growing smart home.

Resideo (formerly Honeywell and Ademco) has been long-known for their alarm control panels, sensors, and thermostats. But they really haven't made much of a splash in terms of smart lighting equipment. But that should change with these brand-new lights. The lineup has everything you need to create a robust and capable lighting setup.

All of these products use Z-Wave Plus technology to communicate with a central hub. We strongly recommend making sure your Z-Wave controller is certified for Z-Wave Plus so that you get the maximum wireless signal range. Some systems that support Z-Wave Plus include the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus and the 2GIG GC3e. If you have monitoring service and access to Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com, then you can control your lights remotely and use them with smart scenes.

These devices are all super easy to program with your alarm system or other Z-Wave hub. When enrolling, you should always make sure to exclude the device from the network first. This will clear out any information and ensure that the device can be enrolled successfully. Then enroll the device by putting the controller into its inclusion mode and activating the inclusion function on the light. It should successfully pair with the network.

Now that you know a little bit about the lights in general, let's take a quick look at all of the new products individually:

  • Resideo Z5SWITCH - An in-wall light switch that is used to control hardwired lights or a ceiling fan. Replaces the existing in-wall switch.
  • Resideo Z5DIMMER - An in-wall dimmer switch that is used to control hardwired lights. The light bulbs must support dimming to be used in that manner. Replaces the existing in-wall switch.
  • Resideo Z53WSWITCH - An in-wall 3-way switch that is used with the Z5SWITCH and Z5DIMMER. You can use multiple Z53SWITCH devices to achieve up to a 6-way lighting configuration. Please note that a traveler wire is required for use.

Hi DIYers! Today, we would like to talk about Lutron Smart Lights and explain why they are a great choice for establishing a smart lighting setup. These smart lights offer many nice features, including integrations with Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa. We think you will love these lights!

When talking about smart lights, we often point customers to Z-Wave lights first, due to their easy integrations with Alarm.com and Total Connect 2.0. But if you don't have access to ADC or TC2, then you might choose a different smart network to build around. For smart lighting, Lutron represents one of the best options available. The Lutron Caseta lineup is perfect for DIY installers, and the products offer some great features and functions.

Anyone interested in Lutron should first become familiar with the Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge. This is the central hub that makes the setup possible. All of your Lutron devices will pair with this controller. And whenever you use a smart assistant (e.g. Siri, HomeKit, Alexa, etc.) to control your Lutron Lights, the command will first pass through the smart bridge.

The Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge is very easy to set up. Just connect it to your router using the included ethernet cable. Then pair your smartphone with the bridge using the Lutron App. You will then be able to control connected Lutron devices from anywhere. One Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge can support up to 50 Lutron devices. You will have no problem decking out your home with Lutron Smart Lights!

The fun part comes once you have your smart bridge. You can then start choosing individual Lutron devices to use in your home. There are plenty of devices to choose from. We have some of our favorites listed below:

There are also lots of kits that include bundled Lutron items. We won't list them all here, but please check out our Lutron Smart Home Page to see them! Lutron even offers a variety of decorative wallplates to go with your Lutron In-Wall Switches. Look for the Lutron Claro Wallplates for more information!

Remember, Lutron is great for pairing with a variety of different platforms including Apple HomeKit and Siri, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Nest, and Sonos Sound. It is also excellent for Resideo Lyric System users who use the system with Apple HomeKit, as it gives the user a single robust platform for controlling the system and their lights. Just remember that the Lyric must be running firmware update MR7 or higher to do this.

If you have any questions about Lutron, please reach out to us. The best way to contact us is to email support@alarmgrid.com. We look forward to hearing from you and answering all your questions about Lutron!

Hi DIYers! Today, we would like to discuss no-contract monitoring and why we feel that it is the best decision for anyone looking to get started with home or business security. The no-contract model offers many advantages that you will simply not receive with traditional "contract" plans.

If you did not know, no-contract monitoring is exactly what it sounds like. You receive alarm monitoring service, without locking yourself into a long-term commitment. You pay for a small time period of service (usually one month), and you can cancel your service at any time. This is still a relatively new offering in the security industry, as the traditional model required customers to sign long-term agreements committing them to service. But with no-contract monitoring, consumers now have an alternative option available.

Below are three reasons why you should sign-up for no-contract alarm monitoring:

It Offers The Best Flexibility.

If you want flexibility in your monitoring service, then a no-contract plan is definitely best for you. The ability to cancel service at any time can be very useful in certain situations. For example, if you are moving, then you might not need service for the month of your move. You can stop service on your old home and then start service at your new location when needed. Many people run intro trouble when they try to cancel a "contract" monitoring plan early for whatever reason. Some people are left on the hook for thousands of dollars for service they no longer need. This will not happen to you with a no-contract monitoring plan.

It Makes Changing Plans Easy.

Many people who are new to alarm monitoring sign-up for a plan that isn't right for them. While they might be happy with the service they receive, they might soon find that they need features only available on a higher-tiered plan. Or maybe they find that they are paying extra for services they don't really need.
With no-contract monitoring, this is not a concern. You can quickly and easily change your monitoring plan to meet your needs. If you decide to upgrade to have your monitoring service include cellular connectivity or home automation you can quickly change. Or if you are finding that you don't really use the remote access app as often as you thought you would, you can certainly downgrade to reduce costs.

It Keeps Monitoring Companies Honest.

When a customer signs-up for no-contract alarm service, the monitoring company must work hard to continue to earn their business each and every month. If the customer is ever unhappy with their service, then they can certainly leave and take their business elsewhere. But with a "contract" plan, the monitoring company has no reason to offer the best service. They have the customer right where they want them. A dissatisfied customer will still be locked in for the duration of the contract and on-the-hook for any of the costs involved. By going with a no-contract monitoring plan, you can be sure that your alarm company is always working hard to provide you with the very best service. And if you ever feel that they are not, then it is in your power to leave.

Now that you have three great reasons to choose no-contract alarm monitoring, we would like to recommend service with Alarm Grid. While there are many no-contract alarm monitoring companies out there, we feel that Alarm Grid is the best. Our monitoring plans are all offered on a month-to-month basis. If you ever need to cancel or suspend your service, we can shut it down at the end of your pay cycle to avoid having you pay for another month. There are never any added fees, and the price you see is what you will pay. We also do not charge fees for starting or stopping service, so you will not have to worry about that. Best of all, any equipment used is yours to keep. If you are not happy with Alarm Grid, you can take your system elsewhere, without experiencing any problems.

If you would like to learn more about Alarm Grid, please click the orange Alarm Monitoring button at the top of this page. You may also email us at support@alarmgrid.com. We are always happy to talk about our alarm monitoring plans and help new and prospective customers get exactly what they need. Remember, our team is here to help you every step of the way. We will continue to work hard each and every month to prove to you and those around you that we are the very best at what we do. We would like to thank you for considering Alarm Grid, and we hope to become a trusted part of your home or business.

Hi DIYers! Today, we are taking a look at one of the more interesting products we have available, the 2GIG GNGRD1-345 Gun Trigger Lock. This gun-safety device is a combination lock that prevents the unauthorized use of a firearm. It will also alert a compatible alarm system when moved.

If you are a responsible gun owner, then you know how important it is to prevent others from using your weapons. This is especially true if you have young children in the home who may accidentally get into your firearms. With the 2GIG GNGRD1-345, you can put these concerns to rest. This safety device fits conveniently over the trigger on your fire arm to prevent it from being activated. The only way to fire the weapon will be to remove the trigger lock. The device fits a wide-variety of different firearms, including handguns, pistols, rifles, and shotguns. It is even California Gun Safety (DOJ) Device Certified.

The 2GIG GNGRD1-345 features a 3-digit combination lock, and it can only be removed if the correct code is entered. The device is extremely strong and tough, and an unauthorized user will not be able to remove the trigger lock without destroying the weapon itself. This will give you peace of mind in knowing that your weapons are secure. While we always recommend keeping any weapons out of reach from unauthorized users, especially children, this device will prevent them from using them if they do gain access. Please note that we do not recommend using the device on a loaded firearm.

If the 3-digit combination lock were not enough, the device also contains a built-in sensor to detect if the firearm is ever moved in any way. If anyone picks up the weapon or tries to remove the sensor, then it will send an alert to your security panel. If you have an interactive service platform like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com, then you can receive remote alerts right to your smartphone while you are away. This is great for knowing if your young kids or someone else gets into your weapons. Remember to check out our monitoring page to learn more about accessing TC2 or ADC.

As a 2GIG 345 MHz Sensor, the GNGRD1-345 will work with a variety of different systems. It is specifically built for the 2GIG GC2, the 2GIG GC3, and the new encrypted 2GIG Systems, the 2GIG GC2e and 2GIG GC3e. However, the non-encrypted 2GIG 345 MHz signal is also accepted by other systems. You can use the GNGRD1-345 with the Resideo Lyric Panel and the 345 MHz version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. And even if you do not pair it with a system for movement detection, the device will still work as a trigger lock.

You can buy the 2GIG GNGRD1-345 Gun Trigger Lock right now on the Alarm Grid website. We know that not everyone chooses to keep firearms in the home. But if you do, you can keep your weapons safe with this trusted device. If you have any questions about this firearm safety product, or any of the other products on our site, please reach out to us by emailing support@alarmgrid.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
